after about a month off Dave is back. Tom has been really active, i would suggest reading his recent entries, some of them twice.

i just spent 5 hours in a darkroom. my hands tingle from the chemicals (not all that pleasantly), my eyes ache from the strain. photography is quickly becoming one of those subjects that i don’t like to have deadlines in... you know what i mean.

accenture saw right through me apparently...

tomorrow i am going to be fucked with... wonderful.
i don’t think i’ve awaited bid tuesday like this since my freshman year.

i don't know when it is that i had to start shaving ever morning or look like crap.
i don't know when it is that i had to start grabbing my cell phone (what the hell?), checking my email and calendar before i could kick everything to the curb and go.
i don't know when it is that i had to start applying for jobs and have to decide weather Palo Alto sounds good, or i should i stick to Chicago, or go back to Seattle, or some place entirely random.
i don't know when it is that i had to start worrying about finances, but i'm checking the market almost every day to see when i should invest that IRA money into stock.
i don't know when it is that i had to start telling people "tell HR to get back to me!"
i don’t know when it is that i had to start sleeping at least 7 hours a night before i could think the next day.

adulthood man. what the shit?

busy busy busy
chicago was excellent (thanks Dave and Tom). back to the grind.
just got back from helping freshman with their resumes today. a few people also got my consultation during my course-assistant office hours today, i’m becoming a regular career advisor...
speaking of careers, the career fair is tomorrow, so i’ll be getting my career on all over the place. so far this week, Accenture, MIT Lincoln Labs and a surprise technical interview from Amazon (yikes!).
more to come...

the math honors society wants me to join, i want to grab them and shake them yelling “i got two of my four college C+s in math classes!” of course i did better in my harder math electives... what’s up with that? i'm just wondering if it’s worth the 25$, i don’t really need it for resume filler but i do get a dinner out of it, which i could make more than 25$ i bet... hmmmm...

one of the worst things about my work is that there is very little that i can do to send home to mom and dad. i mean, copies of my offers from last summer are all and good, but that’s not quite what i had in mind. copies of my technical report from last last summer are cool, but they will probably have a hard time reading it. most of my work this last summer will be seen by less than 10 people, my other feature hasn’t even shipped yet. photography is a nice class because i actually get something out of it, in the tangible, hang-on-the wall, give to mom and dad, finished product sense.

thursday i gave a presentation on the photographer Lewis Hine. he was instrumental in helping the National Child Labor Committee force the government to pass stricter child labor laws in the early 20th century. researching that sort of thing can be depressing, especially when you know it still happens.

shorts:

i send approximately 10 emails a day and receive 30. i estimate i spend about 45 minutes a day on email alone.

snippet from networks class banter thursday:
ego programming: it’s back! ...and it’s bad! ...for the economy!

winamp 3 is pretty impressive, i’m still a bit confused as the new playlist ui, but its got some cool shit and nice additional components like a cd ripper. total memory hog, but hey, who doesn’t have half a gig to throw around anymore?

for those of you who have schemed in the past:
Jon: “today is the car of the cdr of your life”
me: “so, (eqv? ‘today (cadr life)) => #t ?”
Jon: “that’s what i’m saying”

went to see Soulive sunday night, i had never heard of them before but tom said it would be good, so i went. they were good, i’m glad i went, except the traffic part. Tom gives it better treatment than i. i’ve been out of terre haute 4 times now since i left Chicago, i’m more than meeting my goal of getting out of terre haute every 2 weeks.

i am leaving for chicago tomorrow night about 9pm, give me a phone call or email if you want to come up and get some good food or anything.

getting three packages in one day rules - especially when one contains genuine mom cookies. thanks mom!

phone interview with Amazon(.com) today felt like a slam dunk. i’ll be hearing from them one way or another in a week i guess.
tonight’s escape from terre haute was a questionable success, with most of my time spent on the road, oh well.
this weekend promises mucho fun and excitement.
i hope you’re all doing well.

today is thursday, and once again it’s time to kick everything to the curb and skip town. third thursday in a row, excellent.

this was an interesting quote from a friend of mine: "i am the defining factor in all that is recognized as proper"
i think that’d be a damn fine bumper sticker, especially for Tom.

things have been going very well for me recently, i feel like i’m really hitting my rhythm here. school’s going well, job search is going, keeping busy with fraternity and all my peeps, will be hitting the gym more when my left hand works entirely, getting sleep and food, whooped those stupid GREs, getting out of town often... all adds up to some motherfucking sweet action.
